4th Grade

Recent/Current Projects-

4th grade artists recently completed a drawing project inspired by the Molas worn by the Kuna woman off the islands of Panama. We discussed the different ways clothing can relate information about a person to others. The molas are made as panels and then sewed onto the clothing, usually blouses. When they sell molas to tourists, the Kuna sell them in the panel forms because they do not want outsiders to wear their traditional clothing. Also, the Kunas forbid molas to be sold anywhere but Panama and Columbia because it is part of their cultural heritage.

Discussion -

·       What can you learn about someone from their clothing? (climate, season, career, teams they are fans of, activity, cultural, etc…)

·       We have been studying complementary colors and why artists use them. Ask what complementary colors did you use in your mola and how successful did you use them.
